Garfield County, United StatesAt first light in Bryce Canyon, a cliff of pale, vertically grooved rock rises behind a crowd of narrow hoodoos. The upper wall is cream and white, while the slopes below show soft bands of rust, pink and grey. In the lower half, dense spires of orange and pinkish stone crowd together, with dark pine trees growing in the shadowed gaps between them. A strip of forest and a low blue ridge sit along the rim, beneath a calm, deep blue morning sky. The light is even and cool, so the textures of the ribbed rock walls stand out without strong shadows.
