The slate-blue tiles run in tight rows toward ornate ridge ends at the right, while dark beams and white plaster panels fill the wall below. A low veranda runs the length of the building, and a few visitors in padded coats stand or walk along its stone edge. Raked gravel fills the left foreground, marked off by short posts and a rope. Wooded hills with bare branches rise behind the eaves on the left, their purple-brown tones cooling in the fading light.
