Taichung, TaiwanA narrow canal runs straight through Xitun District in Taichung at night, flanked by steep banks of stacked stone and thick green shrubs. Trees with twisted trunks lean over the left bank, and their leaves glow under the street lamps. Lights from passing cars and a red signal flash along both roads at the top of the walls. A low bridge crosses the water in the middle distance, with dark treetops rising behind it. Above them, a small pale-blue domed rooftop catches warm light under the gray night sky, and its reflection breaks into pieces on the rippling water below.
