On the left a tawny rock wall rises beside bright spring leaves, while on the right a huge gray slope carries long streaks of snow. A half-timbered building with a steep roof sits low at the base of the mountains, partly hidden by tall trees. Dark conifers climb the lower slopes between the cliffs. The upper two thirds of the frame belong to sky and stone, and the small house and trees keep the scale of the peaks clear.
