Steep ridges of tan and ochre earth crowd the frame, their tips sharpened by wind and rain into thin, flame-like spires. In the center, narrow shadowed channels drop between the pinnacles, while tall walls on both sides catch the sun and show fine parallel grooves. Along the skyline, a thin railing and a utility pole mark a path above the formations, and a few green shrubs cling to a ledge at the left. The sky is pale blue and brightens near the middle, as if lit from behind the rock. Dry surfaces, deep creases and the sense of looking up from below give the scene a rugged, crowded feel.
