Mono County, United StatesPale mineral towers stand in a cluster at the edge of a wide, flat lake, their rough tips reflected faintly in the calm water. In front, a field of sagebrush and rabbitbrush spreads across the whole foreground, grey-green with bright yellow patches of bloom. Across the water, low brown and blue-grey hills stretch along the horizon under a sky of layered cumulus clouds with grey undersides. A few single towers stand apart in the shallows at the right. The flat shoreline and open horizon make the scene feel wide and dry, as the scrub fades toward the water at Mono Lake.
