Mokpo's downtown streets take on a nocturnal character as neon signage and LED displays illuminate the commercial corridor in hues of pink, purple, and electric blue. The wet pavement reflects and multiplies the artificial light sources, creating the particular Korean urban nightscape that owes as much to the density of commercial signage as to any deliberate lighting design. Despite its location far from Seoul, Mokpo's evening streets carry the same visual vocabulary of Korean small-city nightlife: the noraebang signs, the fried chicken franchise logos, the pharmacy crosses, and the warm glow of soju-and-gogi restaurants preparing for the dinner rush. The November chill adds a crispness to the neon reflections that summer's humidity would soften and blur.
