Machupicchu, PeruA narrow dirt trail climbs through bamboo and thick undergrowth near Machu Picchu, Peru. Uneven stone steps, patched with moss, lead up into a tunnel of leaves. An orange wooden sign on a slim post stands in the middle of the path, its two boards carrying arrows toward the Huchu Picchu and Waynapicchu mountains. On the left, a large lichen-covered boulder leans over the trail, with ferns and small-leaved plants crowding the ground beside it. Thin bamboo stems arch across the right side, and a bent branch crosses the canopy overhead. The light is soft and filtered, leaving the greens deep and slightly damp.
