A jagged ridge of eroded earth pillars fills the lower two thirds of the scene, with thousands of narrow spires packed into a crowded, sloping mass. On the skyline, a single tall pinnacle wears a dark cap of rock, and farther back a pointed purple-grey peak shows on the right. Small green shrubs grow in a few pockets, and the light falls from the left, painting the spires gold while the gaps stay dark. Above it all is a cloudless blue sky, and the dry mountain behind has faint pink and grey tones in its slopes. The scene shows the Valle de la Luna area in Mallasa, La Paz.
