JejuFrom Bukchon 11-gil on Jeju's northern coast, the October sea opens in a broad sweep of cerulean and turquoise, the volcanic shoreline dropping sharply into deep water where the Tsushima Current runs warm even in autumn. The sky stretches in an unbroken gradient from pale horizon to deep blue overhead, and the clarity of the autumn air allows visibility that summer's humidity never permits. Jeju's Bukchon area is famous for the Bukchon dolharubang stone statues and the basalt cliffs of the Bukchon coastline, where centuries of wave action have carved dramatic formations into the dark volcanic rock.
