Yongdam 2(i)-dong, JejuThe colorful horse-shaped lighthouses at Iho Tewoo Beach stand against the winter sea in Iho-dong, Jeju, one painted red and the other white. These whimsical structures have become one of Jeju's most recognizable coastal landmarks, their playful forms contrasting with the serious gray of the December sky and choppy winter waves. The volcanic black sand beach stretches between the lighthouses, largely empty in the off-season cold. Wind-bent trees frame the scene from the roadside, their bare branches adding a graphic quality to the composition. Iho Beach sits on Jeju's northwestern coast near the airport, making these horse lighthouses often the first or last Jeju sight for travelers.
