Coconino County, United StatesDusk settles over the Grand Canyon in muted blue, mauve and brown. A band of yellow and orange sits along the far horizon beneath gray clouds streaked with gold, and distant ridges form a faint blue line at the left. The canyon floor drops in many steps, each wall a slightly different shade of purple-gray. Near the bottom of the frame a small bend of the Colorado River shows as a bright pale ribbon between dark slopes. A red rock ledge cuts across the lower edge. The soft light leaves the stone textures subtle, with broad forms layered one behind another in the haze.
