Hundreds of small, irregularly shaped stones are suspended on thin wires, creating a mesmerizing installation artwork inside a gallery space in Muwang-ri, Yangpyeong-gun, in Gyeonggi Province. The stones hang in dense vertical curtains that form curving walls, creating a narrow passageway that visitors can walk through. Each stone is individually attached to its wire, varying in size, shape, and color from pale cream to warm brown and gray, and the sheer density of the hanging elements creates a textured, almost organic surface that resembles a natural geological formation. The floor beneath is covered in fine sand or gravel, adding to the earthy, elemental quality of the installation. Soft, warm lighting illuminates the stone curtains from various angles, casting intricate shadows and highlighting the natural patterns and textures of each individual stone. The curving walls of suspended stones create an immersive tunnel-like experience, drawing the viewer through a space that blurs the boundary between art and nature. This type of large-scale environmental installation is characteristic of the art galleries and sculpture parks that have made the rural areas east of Seoul increasingly popular cultural destinations.
