Photographed at Seongsan 2(i)-dong, Seoul in August 2025
A large cylindrical building wrapped in patchwork panels of rusted corten steel dominates the scene at the Seongsan 2-dong cultural park, its surface displaying a rich mosaic of amber, burnt sienna, olive green, and weathered cream tones. This converted oil storage tank, now serving as a cultural venue, stands as a bold sculptural presence in the landscape. A low concrete entrance structure with piloti-style columns extends from the left side of the tank, providing access to the interior. The concrete plaza in the foreground, bordered by a low retaining wall, creates a gathering space around the structure. Mature trees frame the right edge of the composition, while an overcast summer sky provides soft illumination that brings out the full chromatic range of the oxidized metal panels. Benches at the base invite visitors to pause and contemplate the building's industrial beauty. This is Seoul's Oil Tank Culture Park, a former petroleum reserve facility that has been reimagined as one of the city's most distinctive cultural landmarks.
